A traditional Hawaiian style of guitar playing, slack-key guitar is characterized by its use of open tunings and fingerpicking techniques. The name "slack-key" refers to the practice of loosening or "slacking" the strings to create a unique sound. Slack-key guitar is often used to accompany hula dancing and other traditional Hawaiian music, and has become increasingly popular outside of Hawaii in recent years.
