American Shoegaze

A subgenre of alternative rock that emerged in the United States during the 1980s and 1990s. Known for its dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes and heavily distorted guitars, American shoegaze takes its name from the tendency of its performers to stare at their feet while playing. Bands like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive are often cited as pioneers of this genre.
